Frequently Asked Questions

So, you are thinking 2008 is your year for tackling that running goal, right?  Take a look at the questions below to see if this program is right for you.

When and Where are the training runs?

Most of our runs will meet at the Marina Green Monkey Bars (Marina Blvd. & Webster).  A few runs in each program will meet at an alternative location due to events taking place at the Marina Green.  Typically the alternative location will be the Beach Chalet Restaurant at the intersection of the Great Highway and JFK Dr.

Most of our runs will take place on Tuesday Evenings and Sunday Mornings.  Some of our programs will also have an alternating Thursday Evening workout.

What level of physical fitness and running experience should I be in to join the group?

Our half marathon and marathon programs are geared towards runners who can already cover 2-3 miles on their own without stopping.  Your pace isn't an issue, but being able to cover the distance without stopping is important.  Many of our teammates will typcially run between a 9 and 11 minute mile, although we often have several runners who run faster than this as well.  Our coaches do a great job of accommodating many paces and levels of fitness.  Our programs are not necessarily for first timers to the distance.  Some of our teammates have participated in Half or Full Marathons before with Team in Training and AIDS Marathon Training.  Our programs are best suited for runners who want a fun group to run with on a regular basis while they are working towards their goal race.

If currently you don't feel like you can cover two miles without stopping, our 5k program may be a better starting place for you.

Our NO BOUNDARIES 5k training program is specifically for beginners.  If you are looking to start a running program, this one's for you.  You do not need to be able to run or walk comfortably for any distance to join this program.  Our goal is to take you from the couch to the 5k in 10 weeks!

Who will be coaching me?

Marathon Matt Forsman and Micah Dickerson are the head and assistant coaches respectively for all of our programs.  Along with their coaching expertise, you will have captains to run with you who are very experienced runners and are there to guide you through the program to help you reach your goals.

How long are your programs?

Our Half Marathon Programs are 11 weeks long, our marathon program is 24 weeks long, and our 5k program is 10 weeks long.

What if I can't make all of the workouts?

All of our programs come with a detailed, daily training calendar.  For each day during the training, you will know what you should be focusing on.  Along with that you will have access to Matt or Micah via email, to answer your questions or keep you motivated.
Many of our participants join our programs to supliment their busy lives.  Consequently they often have to miss a run or two due to work, travel, or family commitments.  The training calendar you receive will help keep you on track even when you aren't able to meet with the rest of the team.

How many people typically join your programs?

We expect between 100 and 200 runners for each of our half and full marathon programs.  We limit each of these programs to 200 runners.  Our NO BOUNDARIES 5k program will be limited to 100 runners.
